2022 David Asher Volunteer Award - Lori Meads

Lori Meads, CEO and President of Seamen’s Bank to receive the Volunteer Award at the 35th Provincetown Swim for Life & Paddler Flotilla, set for September 10.

After years of service to the community, Lori Meads, CEO and President of Seamen’s Bank, will  receive the Volunteer Award at the 35th Provincetown Swim for Life & Paddler Flotilla, set for September 10, 2022. The awards ceremony will take place at 12:30 pm at the town’s new Cannery Wharf Park, 387 Commercial Street, location of Swim registration, the finish line and the Mermaid Brunch.

Lori Mead’s and Seamen’s staff are no strangers to the Swim for Life having volunteered annually for the fundraiser for decades, handling hundreds of registrations on the day of the Swim; tallying donations, pledges and deposits and selling Swim t-shirts in its downtown Provincetown lobby.

As well as CEO and President of Seamen’s Bank, Lori is head of Seamen’s Bank Longpoint Charitable Foundation, the lead business sponsor of the Swim, and contributor to dozens of non-profit and community projects on the Lower Cape. Founded in 1997, the foundation distributes $125,000 to support community organizations, a large amount for a small community bank.

“We have the pulse of the community and can act quickly when emergencies happen,” states Lori. “When CASAS (the animal shelter) lost its generator in the middle of the winter, we were able to jump in and have it replaced quickly,” she adds proudly.

Seamen’s Bank is a mutually-owned community bank, established in 1851, serving the towns of Provincetown to Brewster with five branches. Its employees support the community through active participation in community events, membership on the boards of local non-profit institutions, and participation in local government.

The 2022 Swim for Life 1.2-swim route is along the East End shoreline of Provincetown Harbor. The public is invited to Watch Parties to cheer the swimmers along at St. Mary’s of the Harbor and the Cape Codder Guest House, beginning at 11:00 am.
